A microchip is a permanent pet ID, the size of a grain of rice (12mm). It is inserted beneath the surface of your pets skin between the shoulder blades. Placement of a microchip is similar to a routine shot, taking only a few seconds, without the use of anesthesia. It is read by passing a microchip scanner over the pets shoulder blades. The scanner emits a low radio frequency that provides the power necessary to transmit the microchips unique cat or dog ID code to positively identify the pet. . If your pet becomes lost and is taken to any animal shelter/humane society or veterinarian, they will scan the microchip to read its unique ID code. This ID code is used to identify the pet and retrieve your contact information, which is used to contact you and reunite you with your pet.
Myers Mobile Animal Clinic uses the microchip brand HomeAgain, the only dog & cat microchipping product on the market today that has the Bio-Bond patented anti-migration feature to help ensure the microchip will stay in place for ease of location when scanned.

Tired of stinky kisses? Smelly face rubs got you down? Bad breath may be the first sign for an owner that your cat or dog is in need of a teeth cleaning (dental). Other signs at home may include decreased appetite, signs of tooth pain when eating, or a preference change to a softer diet. On routine examination other findings such as red gums, tartar or calculus, and loose or broken teeth all indicate your pet needs a dental. Periodontal disease begins when bacteria accumulates at the gum line, later leading to gingivitis if routine maintenance of the teeth (brushing teeth and dental treats/rawhides) is not performed. Gum recession, tooth decay, tooth loss and/or bone loss can be the result of years of unkempt teeth.
As with any procedure requiring general anesthesia, preanesthetic bloodwork is required the morning of the dental. After sedation, ultrasonic scaling is used to clean all surfaces of each tooth. Examination of each tooth is performed and a dental chart created. Extractions may or may not be indicated. Lastly, the teeth are polished, creating a smooth enamel surface making it difficult for bacteria to adhere. Once bacteria get re-established, the cycle of plaque leading to tartar and eventually gingivitis gets started all over again.

Myers Mobile Animal Clinic provides a variety of surgical procedures along with convenient pickup and transport back to your home. Prior to anesthesia, patients undergo preanesthetic bloodwork to reduce anesthetic complications. During an anesthetic procedure patients vitals (temperature, heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation) are monitored by our highly trained staff using digital monitoring equipment. An IV catheter is placed to provide fluid and necessary medical therapy throughout the procedure. Patients recover in a comfortable environment under close observation to deliver adequate pain management post-operatively. Some surgical procedures may require hospitalization. After your pets release they will be transported back home.

Routine annual examinations allow early detection of health and behavioral problems. A thorough physical exam of your pet from head to tail includes evaluation of weight and diet, coat and skin, eyes and ears, nose and throat, mouth, teeth and gums, heart, lungs, musculoskeletal, abdomen and gastrointestinal, and urogenital systems. Routine visits ensure your dog or cat has the latest vaccination recommendations and parasite prevention. A vaccine protocol will be established based on your pets individual lifestyle and risk of exposure.
A routine microscopic examination of feces for intestinal parasites (such as hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, tapeworms, giardia and coccidia) is recommended to maintain the health of your pet and to prevent zoonotic diseases (An animal disease that can be transmitted to humans). While a pets bowel movements may visually appear normal, they can be harboring underlying parasites. An annual heartworm test for dogs is highly recommended to detect the presence of heartworm disease, followed by administration of a monthly heartworm preventative.
Bloodwork panels can also be a valuable tool for early health detection. Many health problems may not be obvious on physical exam alone. If caught early, many health issues can be successfully treated or controlled, allowing a longer and better quality of life for your pet. Obtaining a bloodwork values when the pet is healthy can provide a baseline to compare results if your pet does become ill. Health screening blood panels may be created depending on the pets age, medication monitoring, and other medical issues. Myers Mobile Animal Clinic provides in-house laboratory services in addition to more advanced outside laboratory services.
